Freaknik began as a picnic in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park that was organized in the 1980s by students attending the Atlanta University Center (a consortium of HBCUs in Atlanta, including Morehouse College, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, and, at the time, Morris Brown College).
