She was later known for seeking the Democratic nomination for president for the 2020 election and again for the 2024 election. Williamson is the youngest of three siblings born to Samuel Williamson, a World War II (1939–45) veteran and immigration lawyer, and Sophie Ann Kaplan Williamson, a homemaker.
