He formally accepted the throne on December 1, 2016, although his reign officially began following the death of his father, Bhumibol Adulyadej, on October 13, 2016. Vajiralongkorn’s coronation was held on May 4, 2019. Early in his reign, Vajiralongkorn assumed full control over the royal assets, making him the world’s wealthiest reigning monarch, with an estimated net worth of approximately $43 billion.
